Why Your Vote Matters for Your Business

Being the Boss

In the first meaningful glimmer of hope since the overturn of Roe v. Wade, on Tuesday, August 2nd, voters in Kansas rejected a proposed amendment to the state constitution that would have said there was no right to an abortion in the state. Groups organized and got out the vote to turn the tide on this crucial issue.

You might be asking yourself: Meg, what the heck does this have to do with my business or money?!

Great question – I’d love to tell you.

💰 When people need to travel to receive reproductive healthcare, this costs businesses money in terms of days off and lost productivity.

💰 When people are forced to have pregnancies they don’t want, they are potentially giving up years of lost income and earning potential.

💰 When people have access to good reproductive healthcare, they are more likely to earn more. They will have better benefits. They will have more flexibility to move between jobs or start a business and have greater long-term wealth-building potential.

The vote in Kansas is a clear sign that voting makes a difference. Our voices matter.

Organizing behind a cause, rallying your personal network, and donating to political action groups can and does change the course of history.

When it comes time to vote for issues that matter to you and your business like taxes, regulations, or employment laws, going to the polls is still one of the best ways for you to affect change.

Speaking of why voting is so important… representation matters. The Senate just passed a $370 billion climate, tax and healthcare bill. This will invest critical dollars into the climate crisis.

This bill is now headed to the House. To ensure its passage, now is a great time to call your Representative. Ask them to vote in favor of The Inflation Reduction Act (the name of the bill). You can find your representative here.
